Born in Fukuoka, Japan, Miyako Yoshinaga attended Keio University in Tokyo and the Museum Studies Program at New York University. Her career in fine art began as a curatorial assistant at the Asian Art Department at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York. In 1999, she opened her gallery under M.Y, Art Prospects (later renamed MIYAKO YOSHINAGA) and organized and directed numerous exhibitions at her gallery and other venues. Today, the gallery is recognized as one of the pioneers in introducing Asian contemporary art, particularly Japanese photography, as a fresh field for collectors and appreciators. Miyako has arranged significant museum, private, and corporate acquisitions throughout her career. She was featured in PHOTOGRAPH Magazine’s “In Profile” column in November/December 2014 and Tussle Magazine in Feburary 2020.

In 2024, she closed her third gallery space on the Upper East Side, taking a break to redefine her role in the changing environment of the art business while continuing to work with her artists and clients. As a freelance, she is also interested in writing, translating, editing, and researching contemporary art.
