Paris Photo 2018: Stand A31

November 8 - 11, 2018
Stand A31

Solo Presentation by Yojiro Imasaka

After his successful debut in our duo presentation at last year’s Paris Photo, we propose a solo exhibit of Yojiro Imasaka (b. 1983) whose spiritually evocative landscapes demonstrate the transcendence of style over time and location.

In the series Shades of Recollection (2010), a street scene looks like buildings split by lightning. In Untitled States of Americas (2014) abandoned barns and trailers sleep amid fields or thickets as if under a spell.

Although he references the socio-cultural nuances of each region he shoots, his inspiration is always the awe-struck moment when finding himself surrounded by primeval nature. From the riverbanks in Werra (2014) to the wetlands in Blue Bayou (2016) and the tropical forests in Trade Winds (2017), the epic-scale vegetation is heightened by the clarity of a large negative and hypnotic overtones achieved through an elaborate toning process.

Imasaka stands out as a unique talent even among the world-class company represented at Paris Photo.
