Endangered in New York State. Like many other birds of prey, peregrine falcons have suffered from the use of pesticides causing eggshell thinning which drastically lowers breeding success. This crow-sized falcon is admired for its incredible speeds which are seldom exceeded by any other bird. Plunging from tremendous heights, peregrine falcons can reach up to 180 mph in pursuit of prey.
