In Ancient Tree with Bed, an empty bed with folded sheets dislocates in the open field, an unexpected sleeping environment. Turpan farmers have a unique tradition of sleeping on the barren hills during harvesting season. After Night is an early series by Lisa Ross surveying beds in the landscapes of Uyghur Region, west of China (Xinjiang). The desolate composition is in deference to the artist’s aspiration for extracting the objects people create, distilling experience to its essence.
