Revisiting William Henry Fox Talbot’s 1839 photograph The Needles (Schaaf no. 1563), Jyrki Siukonen brings together photographic history, natural materials, and sculptural construction. An image of an open book—Larry J. Schaaf’s The Photographic Art of William Henry Fox Talbot—rests beneath a camera tripod from which a spruce branch is suspended. Scattered needles connect the historical image to its physical counterpart, creating a poetic dialogue between the original photographic experiment, its documentation, and the fragile nature of memory. "The Photographic Art of William Henry Fox Talbot" by Larry J. Schaaf (Princeton University Press); copyright acknowledged.
